Destination Dubai 2012 Motorcycle Challenge

Hello and Welcome from Destination Dubai 2012 Motorcycle Challenge

On 22 September, three former soldiers - Geoff, Chris, and Colin, were due to embark on a 6,000 mile motorbike challenge, riding from the UK to Dubai in as close to 2 weeks as possible to raise money for wounded heroes. Our aim is to raise £25,000 which will sponsor a bedroom for wounded service personnel at Tedworth House for 10 years.

The now infamous YouTube video viewed by many as an insult to Islam, and the subsequent killing of the US Ambassador to Libya, meant the DD2012 team had to tear up its plans and come up with a new challenge - just five days before departure.

The violence in the region, the geographical location of Dubai, and the fact that all visas were suspended for security reasons, meant the original expedition simply could not go ahead.

But giving up was not an option. Instead, we rode 6,300 miles, through 18 countries, in 14 days. We rode across Europe, through Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Turkey, then back up through the Balkans, to finish at Dunkerque.

We are all family men in our 40s and between us have served more than 50 years in the British army and undertaken operational tours in places such as Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.  We were lucky, and returned home without serious injuries. We want to give something back to those who were not so fortunate.

Our team is wider than just the three of us. We have a three-strong support crew who were vital to making this expedition a success. Mick is our medic and leads on security; Bron is our media guru who took photos, blogged,  and was key to securing corporate sponsors; and Karl our mechanic, who made sure the wheels keep turning.

Our longest day was 728 miles. We felt we had to make this a challenge to be worthy of your support, but of course safety had to play a major part in all our decisions.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page, every donation is appreciated. And please like our Facebook fan page (DestinationDubai2012) and follow us on Twitter (@destdubai2012).

About Help for Heroes

What is H4H all about? It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It's about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It's about Ben, it's about Steven and Andy and Mark, it's about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.

Please note, the Bmycharity website will be closing on 31st December 2015. Help for Heroes can no longer create new fundraising pages (however, donations to existing pages are accepted until the closure). If you would like to create a fundraising page in support of H4H, please visit
